National Epilepsy Week heralded a new era of friendship at the Meath. Mayor of Waverley Councillor Pat Frost led an event of celebration to re-launch the Friends of the Meath, an independent charity that aims to raise awareness of the Meath's work through a variety of activities.
Formerly known as the League of Friends, the Friends first started more than 40 years ago. Danny Denningberg, his late wife Peg, other family members and many others gave a substantial contribution to organising activities such as fetes. The Meath is very fortunate that David January has now agreed to take the Friends forward. David's daughter lives at the Meath, giving him the valuable insight of being a parent of a beneficiary of our services.
David said: “The Meath has gone through many changes over the years and today marks a new chapter with the reforming of the Friends of the Meath. I am very proud to be taking over from the Denningbergs the stewardship of the Friends.
“We aim to ensure that the work of the Meath, the residents and the staff are more widely known; not only in Godalming but more generally in the surrounding area. We further intend to assist by raising funds and are actively looking for Friends to become members.
“We will also assist in ensuring that the Meath offers additional life chances to the residents, over and beyond what the Meath provides for residents in terms of its excellent range of services.”
Around 50 people attended the launch on 19 May, including the Mayors of Waverley, Godalming and Haslemere, families of Meath residents, trustees and staff.
