Bringing The House Down, A Concert at Glyndebourne in Support of The Meath

Taking a bow
20 April 2022

On Sunday 10th April we were fortunate enough to see our long-awaited concert at Glyndebourne Opera House in support of The Meath come to fruition. The event, which was originally scheduled for April 2020 was rescheduled due to the pandemic and was organised by British Bass Brindley Sherratt who took to the stage with a fantastic line up of his opera singer friends. In addition to being an internationally renowned opera singer, Brindley is also a proud father to Meath resident Amy.

The Meath’s journey to Glyndebourne took a long and winding road and we encountered a few obstacles on the way. However, after three scheduled dates, various changes to line-up and one pandemic, we are absolutely thrilled to have delivered such a spectacular and successful large-scale fundraising event. We are immensely grateful to Brindley and his friends and family who worked hard to put on such a unique and very special concert.

The spectacular line up of performers all kindly donated their talent and included Josef Ahn, Fleur Barron, Rachel Nicholls, Nicky Spence, Freddie De Tomasso, Alexandra Oomens, John Tomlinson, Sally Mathews, Brindley Sherratt and Jennifer France. The concert was artfully compared by comedian, writer, and opera fan Chris Addison and with the fabulous accompaniment of Caroline Jaya-Ratnam and Matthew Fletcher.

As always, the people we support were at the forefront of our thoughts throughout the event and we were delighted to share on stage as part of the concert, a film of The Meath Choir, supported by members of Guildford and Godalming Jazz Choir singing ‘This Is Me’ from The Greatest Showman.

Brindley commented on behalf of his family “We are still ‘riding high’ from our day at Glyndebourne with ‘Bringing the House Down’. We have been overwhelmed with the response to what began as an over supper conversation four years ago. To welcome so many people to the best of venues for an afternoon of the highest quality performing was a privilege and how wonderful to raise such a large amount of money for a charity that is dear to our hearts. All of the performers have reported how much they enjoyed the day and felt hugely honoured to be there and we are incredibly grateful to them and everyone else who made this event possible. Go Meath!”

Many thanks indeed to Mark Holford, our wonderful volunteers, sponsors and all those involved in the organisation of this fabulous event. Special thanks must go to Adrian Biddell, Pledge Master and the 1,000 audience members who together, helped us to raise vital funds. The money raised through this event will fully fund our Music Programme, Pets as Therapy and our Nurse Practitioner team for a whole year. Statutory funding through care packages does not stretch to the full cost of activity sessions, our healthcare and wellbeing services and we are immensely grateful for all the generous support which has made this event possible.

In addition to the successful fundraising we achieved at the event, we are delighted to have raised the profile of The Meath and epilepsy while reaching a new audience of supporters who we hope to see again. Fortunately, our new opera loving supporters can enjoy another fantastic Meath fundraising event later this year. Brindley Sherratt will be performing at our 130th Anniversary Christmas Carol Concert alongside The Meath Choir, the choir of Saint Clement Danes and the Honourable Artillery Company Band, visit https://www.meath.org.uk/calendar/carols-at-st-clement-danes-3/ to find out more.
